Home Children Deaths
The Home Children Deaths database adds one more piece of data honouring those children who generally lived their lives in obscurity. It is intended to complement memorials, such as the Barnardo Girl’s Memorial in Peterborough, Ontario that lists approximately 8,000 names of children who passed through the Hazel Brae Home, and numerous other databases intended to aid in Home Children research.

We built this database using four primary sources: the RG76 General Correspondence files at Library and Archives Canada, newspaper obituaries and death notices, Barnardo’s Ups and Downs magazine, and information supplied by descendants of Home Children who gave the information knowing that a database was being developed. Information has been contributed, collected, collated and inputted by several individuals, including John Sayers, Lori Oschefski, Marjorie Kohli, Perry Snow, Jennifer Layne, Carol Black, and Dona Crawford.

This database will help researchers see where these children lived and the important role they played in Canada’s development in war and peace.
