British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa

Education is one of BIFHSGO's main focus areas. Under the leadership of our Director of Education, we provide educational opportunities for every skill level to help our members learn new information, improve their research skills, and produce well-documented genealogies. We also encourage and inspire our members to share their own family stories.
We offer education sessions (as talks or workshops)  on a variety of subjects. Visit our Meetings & Activities page for a list of upcoming education talks or workshops.
Each month, we invite a guest speaker or member to deliver a presentation related to genealogy, primarily – but not exclusively – in the British Isles. Visit our Meetings and Activities page for a list of upcoming presentations. These presentations are preceded by our Before BIFHSGO Education Sessions and our Discovery Tables during the break.
Year after year, our annual fall conference attracts some of the best Canadian and international speakers who talk on a variety of topics, with a special focus on the British Isles.
Special interest groups
For members who would like to learn about a specific area of genealogical research and share their knowledge with others, we hold special interest group meetings throughout the year.
More than 25 years of our journal, Anglo-Celtic Roots, are available to read online in our archives.
For information about the library and to view our book lists, visit the Library page
We offer many handouts and videos from presentations delivered at our conferences and monthly meetings in our Members Only section.
