Dave Annal is a professional researcher with over 40 years' experience, a fellow of the Society of Genealogists, and a former principal family history specialist with the (UK) National Archives. Dave has written a number of family history books, including the bestselling beginner's guide Easy Family History and, with Peter Christian, he is the co-author of Census: the Family Historian's Guide. Mia Bennett
Mia has been researching her family history for over 25 years and is now a professional genealogist specializing in using DNA to solve family history mysteries. She speaks internationally on DNA as well as family history methodology and using more unusual sources to expand research. Based in Gloucester, England, Mia is an associate of the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives and has just become the Chair of the Gloucestershire Family History Society. More |
Gill BlanchardUnfortunately, Gill was unable to join us. She is a full-time historical researcher, tutor and author with an academic background in history, sociology and politics at the graduate and postgraduate degree levels. She has been conducting family, house and local history research on a professional basis since 1992 and has taught research at all skill levels, offering training locally, nationally and online. Gill has written a number of books, including Tracing Your . . . research guides, histories and biographies. Derek BlountDerek, an English-born Michigan resident, has been a genealogist for 34 years and for 10 years has professionally specialized in research in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth nations. He holds a B.S. degree from Oakland University and has completed course work at the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. As well as serving on genealogy-related boards and belonging to the (US) Association of Professional Genealogists and the Society of Genealogists in London, Derek offers genealogy research services through his business, Lost Branches LLC. Beryl EvansBeryl Evans, the author of Tracing Your Welsh Ancestors: A Guide for Family Historians, is the Research Services Manager at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth and has been researching Welsh family history for nearly 40 years. As well as being a member of the executive committee of the Association of Family History Societies of Wales, she is chairman of the Cardiganshire Family History Society. Beryl has contributed to television and radio programs on family history, as well as writing many articles for family history publications, and has given presentations on various aspects of Welsh family history to a global audience. |
Dr. Janet FewJanet is an experienced English family, social and community historian who lectures regularly on these subjects throughout the UK, overseas and at sea. As well as writing articles for local, national and academic history and family history magazines, she has written several non-fiction history and genealogy books and two historical novels. Janet completed her doctorate at the University of Exeter, researching migration patterns in nineteenth-century North Devon. Currently, Janet is serving as the president of the Family History Federation and chairman of the Devon Family History Society. More |
Caroline GurneyCaroline Gurney is a qualified professional genealogist, historian, and international speaker. Her work includes family history, house history, and historical research for the media, businesses, authors and collectors. Caroline specializes in English and Anglo-Jewish research, genealogy “brick walls,” tracing living people, and DNA analysis. She has a master’s degree with Distinction in Family and Local History and is researching for a PhD on Mapping Bristol's Jewish Community, 1724–1881. Paul MilnerPaul, a native of northern England, is a professional genealogist and internationally known lecturer with 30 years’ experience, specializing in British Isles research. He speaks on a variety of topics relating to research in the British Isles, migration to North America and research methodology. As well as serving on the boards of several genealogy organizations, Paul has published numerous books, most recently Discover English Census Records and Buried Treasure: what’s in the English parish chest. Alan RustonAlan has been involved in lecturing, speaking and writing on family history for over 30 years. He is a regular speaker at the Society of Genealogists and has written two books in their My Ancestors Were . . . publication series. Gill ThomasGill’s background is in history, having graduated in history at University College Cardiff. Following a commercial career in marketing and publishing, she retrained to become a professional genealogist, taking the Postgraduate Certificate in Palaeographical and Genealogical Studies at the University of Strathclyde in 2012. She is a member of AGRA and is about to become its chair. Although she lives in London, her family’s roots are in Cardiganshire and in Mid-Wales, and her passion is Welsh research. She regularly gives talks covering different aspects of researching Welsh ancestors via the Society of Genealogists and local family history societies in England and Wales. More |
Ian WallerIan is a retired professional genealogist with considerable experience in English research who currently serves as the vice-chairman and education officer of the Federation of Family History Societies. He is a fellow and former chairman of The Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives, the body representing professional genealogists throughout England and Wales. Ian is a fellow of the Society of Genealogists and has authored several books in the society’s My Ancestors Were . . . series. He has also written Family History Research Challenges and How to Solve Them and Introducing Manorial Records, published by Family History Books. |

Lisa Tremblay-Goodyer started her career at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) 15 years ago as an archivist, and is currently the Director of LAC’s Reference Services, which includes Genealogy Services.
Robyn Feres-Cameron is a Senior User Experience Designer at Library and Archives Canada. She is an experienced user researcher and designer working on the Digital Access Product Team, improving access to LAC’s collections.
Julie Roy is the manager of Reference Services at Library and Archives Canada in Ottawa. She has been involved in the development and design of Ādisōke since 2017.
